Helpful Conventioneering Tips, or “How to Survive GenCon”

Helpful Conventioneering Tips, or “How to Survive GenCon”

An oldie from a couple years back, but still relevant. And as everyone knows, GenCon begins this week. One chapter we ended up cutting from Games’ Most Wanted was one covering general convention tips. Or, how to make the most of your convention experience. They’re pretty universal, so even if you’re attending Origins Game Fair, Spiel, or E3, they have just as much merit as GenCon.

Three Things I Like About: Fortress America

Three Things I Like About: Fortress America

Welcome back to the Three Things series! This original box game sits on my game shelf – complete with all parts and pieces. While I don’t play it much anymore, it was a common weekend diversion in my home during my high school and college years.

Games Most Wanted (In More Ways Than One)

Games Most Wanted (In More Ways Than One)

This past Monday, a dream finally saw fruition: I saw my first non-fiction book on a shelf at Barnes & Noble. Games’ Most Wanted has finally made it into the public eye. Granted, it’s not the first time I’ve seen one of my books on a store shelf; I’ve seen, on several occasions, many of …

Faith, Science Fiction, and Gaming (Part 2)

Part 2 of Saving the Game’s podcast, which has me as a guest host, posted over the weekend. (You can catch information on Part 1 in my blog post last week.) Faith, Science Fiction, and Gaming (Part 1)

A few weeks ago I was invited to participate in a gaming podcast. This one was not your typical game industry interview, however. Saving the Game is a group of gamers who are Christian; their podcasts focus more on how elements of the Christian walk and faith can interact with games and gaming. It’s not …

Closing the Dragon’s Door

Closing the Dragon’s Door

Well, you’d think this would be another update…and you would be correct. Except that it isn’t anymore. Despite my (paltry) efforts in trying to sneak open looks into the forthcoming HBHK, interest in this book has never really taken off aside from a relative few Kurita fans. Which, in all honesty, isn’t that surprising. The …

A Conversation on Culture and Change Regarding the Washington Slurskins

A Conversation on Culture and Change Regarding the Washington Slurskins

The call to change the team’s moniker isn’t an isolated issue and it’s not, as many opponents callously bawl, “a bunch of PC bull.” It’s part of a broader issue in how we, as humans on this planet, relate and respect each person’s beliefs, culture, and ideals. How is it that this crude and racist epithet continues to exist on the fourth-most valuable sports franchise in the world? It’s an issue that goes beyond the misguided use of a word; it’s the taint of a past that many refuse – or ignore – exists.

Perhaps I can find new ways to motivate them…

The Death Star is almost cleared to fire. Work continues, though every time I come downstairs, the labor force is fooling around. And I have proof! I’m pretty sure bets were being placed on whether Cap or Batman could knock the other out. Though poor Han ended up being late to the brawl. Speaking of …

In Kurita Space, No One Can Hear You Complain

HBHK writing is in the winding down stage; I would’ve been done the other day except I completely forgot the role playing notes in the Rules Annex. A little shock there when I discovered I still had a bit more to write. But then again, it covers more of the “general life” of a Combine …
