MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT! (Ok, TOTALLY NOT REAL!)

I’m so giddy, I can’t contain myself. The official press release goes out tomorrow, but I’ve got permission to post the news here a little early…

I’ve inked my first novel deal with IMR. It’s set in the BattleTech: Dark Age era, slated for Summer 2010 release. Working title? Time of Triumph.

The gist of the novel is mostly set among the far-flung Clan Homeworlds, telling the tale of a newly decanted warrior making his way among the ruins of Kerensky’s dream. The plan, at this time, is to also have a few flashbacks into the mysterious “War of Reaving” that fans have been aching to know about since, well, the last five years or so.

While all the details of that war won’t be told, it’ll give a larger look into the death of six Clans and how a new Clan and society was birthed from the ashes of the Blood Spirit Catastrophe, and how the Fourth Exodus has affected the bloated society of the Homeworld’s key power player.

I’m totally stoked to be doing this; I’ve been a huge part of creating the WoR plotline (with some key help from Paul Sjardjin) and have wanted to be the one to tell the story.

Now I’ll get the chance.

Along with Time of Triumph, I’ll be penning a Battlecorps-exclusive serial to expand on some of the more ‘historical’ elements that will deepen the novel’s story. Whether the already-written WoR sourcebook will finally be printed or not is up to IMR and CGL; if it goes through, then 2010 will indeed be a big year for me.

So break out the bubbly and celebrate with me!

UPDATE:

Happy AFD! Yes, yes, let the recriminations begin: The above is a complete and total fabrication…

Funny? Not in the ha-ha sense, no. And to those non-gamer readers, I’m sure it made no sense at all. But to the oh, 500+ BT fans who clicked over here today and read it, I know it made sense. Sorry to get your hopes up, Clanner fans, even if a little, but AFD is my one day a year to be a completely obtuse freelancer and tweak some buttons. And from the avalanche of messages I got in email, IM and DMTweets, it worked. I mean, come on – how many times have I told you people the War of Reaving isn’t slated to be told any time soon?

Ironically, none of my close friends and associates were fooled for a second. Which means I either choose my friends well, or I’m just that obvious. Or, more likely, they really are capable of reading my mind…

So yeah, no novel, no story, no sourcebook-already-written, no serial. None of it is real, people.

At least, not yet…

(And FWIW, CGL did indeed know about this as I asked first. I’m not completely stupid.)

Enjoy your April.
